Deck Repair in Ramsay

We recently repaired a deck in the Ramsay neighbourhood of Calgary. It was a well-built deck and approximately 13-years old. The steps and a number of deck boards felt soft to walk on. After removing the suspect areas, we found significant rot in the support beams that led to the steps. While the steps were okay, they were no longer actually attached to the deck. New 2x8s were added to reinforce the rotting beams and I cut new strings and replaced steps that are about a foot wider than the original steps.

The original deck boards are 4.5 inches wide and new 1x6 deck boards are 5.5 inches wide. I used a mitre saw cut the lengths (and angles) and a table saw to cut the width of boards down to 4.5 inches. I then used our auto planer to round the edges to match the original boards.

After staining, it’s hard to tell where the new wood is compared to the old wood without looking closely. The homeowners are happy and we’re happy too.

One day, I’ll be back and I’ll take a photo of the restained post on the right side of the below images.
