Community & Deck Building
The late great musician, Joe Strummer, once said, “Without People, You’re Nothing.”
As a structural social worker, community is everything – it’s the glue that helps people break through structures of oppression. So, why not build decks with a vision for community?
Community development plays a vital role in creating stronger, more resilient, and inclusive societies and the resulting enhanced social cohesion encourages collaboration, participation, belonging and mutual support.
I enjoy building places for community, and I enjoy community development. I for sure cannot take much of the credit of building the community where we live. Many of us moved here at similar stages of life, we raised kids and have been well connected for nearly two decades.
It is for the reasons above, that our family smiles when we see neighbours sitting and sometimes eating a meal on one of our decks without prior notice. We just join them for a visit when we’re home :-)
We hosted neighbours on our backyard deck on July 1, 2025. See below for the photos!
